American Idols from the past

I listen to a lot of different music and I couldn’t just create my top favorite. I decided to create a themed mix list for this assignment. I picked a theme that many people across the United States can relate with. I chose a list of all the winners or contestants that became famous from the show American Idol and the finale song they sang on the famous stage. I hope you enjoy!

Kelly Clarkson- “A Moment Like This” Kelly Clarkson was the first winner on American Idol. The song “A Moment Like This” talks about how people wait for the one special moment in their life. It’s a song that refers to a loving relationship between two people.

Ruben Studdard- "A House Is Not A Home" I love the way Ruben sings this song because he has such a loud and bold voice. You can hear the words and meaning behind each individual one. This is a very powerful song.

Clay Aiken- "This Is The Night" The song “This Is The Night” is a touching song. It’s not a fast beat song, and has an easy beat so you could slow dance to it. The lyrics say it all when it comes to this song. It’s a song that brings emotion to your heart when you listen to the lyrics of the song. Enjoy it.

Fantasia Barrino- "Something To Talk About" When it comes to this song, it’s hard to sit still. This is a great song to play in the car while you are driving because it is so upbeat. Her voice is a little high pitched but not enough to make you cringe. I hope you enjoy this song and all the energy that comes with it.

Carrie Underwood- "Inside Your Heaven" If you enjoy country music and Carrie Underwood you will like this song. Her voice has a wide range when it comes to “Inside your Heaven.” When I listen to this song, I just want to sing right along with her.

Taylor Hicks- "Do I Make You Proud" This song has one of the best lyrics and instrumental music in the background. This is a great song to listen to when you are upset, and just need to think about life.

Kellie Pickler- "Unchained Melody" Kellie Pickler has such passion behind her voice when she sings this song. She adds her own style when she sings it. The lyrics are beautiful, and talk about needing that one special person to love. This is a great song about love and being with someone.

Jordin Sparks-“This is my now” This is one of my favorite songs and one of my favorite American Idols. Everyone and anyone can relate to this song and these lyrics. It talks about how you need to go out there the grab life by the horns and get your one in a lifetime chance. Jordin Sparks is a very young and talented lady and the fact that she can sing this song in full range is unbelievable.

David cook-“The time Of My Life” When David Cook sings this song, you know he means every word of it. This song has great lyrics and is good song to listen to when you need to smile. The song talks about living life to the fullest and to just every moment. This is an awesome inspiration song.
David Archuleta- "Imagine" David Archuleta has a very powerful and bold voice when singing this song. I like this song because it talks about imagining your perfect world and how peaceful it would be. This is one of my favorite songs by him.

Kris Allen-“What’s Goin’ On” Kris Allen has a very soothing voice. He is a singer that I can listen to repeatedly. You can tell he believes in everything he sings because of the passion in his voice.

Adam Lambert-“No Boundaries” The song “No Boundaries” is one of my favorite songs. The song talks about how there are no limits in life and that you can have anything you want in life as long as you believe in it. Adam Lambert has an edgy singing voice which makes him stand out as a singer.

My favorite songs are ones that have meaningful and inspirational lyrics. The American Idol past and present winners have done a phenomenal job at selecting these types of songs. I hope you enjoy these and that maybe they too will become a favorite of yours.

Shows from My past

When I was growing up I didn’t watch much television. I was either at after school care or involved in sports. When I would actually come home, it would be after six at night so there were no children programs on. During the summer or Saturday mornings I would be able to watch television. During that time we didn’t have cable so I was stuck watching WTTW, or ABC’s Saturday morning cartoons. Those were my favorite.

WTTW or channel 11 as I know it back home had shows like Arthur and Barney. When I was really little, around the age of 2 and 3, Barney was the only thing I would watch. It had a positive image for the children about being kind and friendly towards others. The show taught many different things like using your manors or even how to make arts and crafts. My parents loved this show because they could just put in a VHS of it and I could sit there for hours and watch it. As I got older the show Arthur came into play. It was about an aardvark growing up in the little town of Ellwood City. This show taught how to deal with younger siblings, and how to be a friend. I watched Arthur until I was in the third grade.

ABC’s Saturday morning cartoons were a favorite. Growing up I only had cable at my dad’s house, so ABC gave me a chance to see the Disney shows I enjoyed at his house. I remember watching That’s So Raven, and whatever else was on in the morning. It was my only chance to sit in front of a TV and relax.

As I got older I remember sitting down with my mom for TV nights. Almost every night there would be a show on the TV that we would watch together. Monday nights would be 7th Heaven. I would recall this to be one of the best influential shows on the air. It’s about a minister and his wife growing up with seven children. This show covered just about everything; smoking, dating, having sex, and racism. This show helped not only families but people too. I remember one episode where Ruthie, their youngest daughter was writing to a military man over sees who ended up dying. After the show they talked about how people can write to these men and women and send over care packages. After viewing this I wanted to do just that. Because this show was on for so long I grew up with it. There was never just one person I wanted to be, but a little of everyone.

Tuesday nights were my favorite. Gilmore Girls was and still is my favorite TV series. The show is about a mother daughter duo that grew up as best friends. It talked about single parenting the difficultly of it. It also talked about the difficulty of having a single parent from a child’s point of view. I was young watching this show but I absolutely loved it. I grew up with a single parent and this show just made me realize the fun we could have with it. It didn’t have a huge influence on me growing up other then speed talking and witty comments but it did give me a look into the future. The way the mother parents in the show is what I will look for in guidance when I become a parent.

Like I said in the beginning I didn’t really grow up with television as a huge factor in my life, and I’m happy with that. Today children’s lives run by the television. If a parent is going to stick a child in front of a TV make sure the show is educational and filled with positive reinforcement.
